Sashti Abda Poorthi

Sashti Abda Poorthi (Sanskrit meaning: Sashti == 60, Abda == years, Poorthi == completion) is also known as 'Sashti Poorthi'. It is a Hindu ceremony that is celebrated to commemorate the 60th birthday of a person. As per the Hindu culture, the age sixty is of great significance because it is considered as a turning point in a man's life for at this age one has usually fulfilled his commitments to family and home and so he can turn his mind to spirituality.
The couple seek the blessings of elders who have themselves completed their Sashti Abda Poorthi and in turn bless the ones who are younger to them.
Shashti Abda Poorthi could be conducted in the year, month and the day a person completes 60 years of age. If this is not possible then an auspicious day as per the person's birth star is fixed during the year before the completion of sixty years.

Bheema Ratha Shanthi

‘Bheema Ratha Shanthi’ represents the completion of 70 years! This ceremony is performed when he completes 69th and enters the 70th. The name Bheema is kept as during this period the doer and his family are vulnerable to a Mrithyu called ‘Bheema’.
There are certain traditional rules for the performance of this Bheema Ratha Shanthi. But there is no age restriction as such for this ceremony. Generally, people believe 70 years of age as the deadline in the life-span of an individual. But, there are other milestones like 80, 90 and 100 years also to be crossed in life. When an individual crosses these important milestones in his married life these blissful occasions are named and celebrated as “Bheema Ratha Shanthi”.

Sadhabishegam

Sadhabishegam ceremony is performed for a person on his completing 80 years, 8 month and 8 days. This marks the occasion when life has been lived fully and fruitfully. This ceremony is also repeated on completion of 100 years.
This function is called sahasra chandra darsana santhy (who saw 1000 times 3rd day (munram piray) moon.
This function is performed to father or grand-father by son ,daughter, grandson, relations. It is one of the sacred duty of the children to arrange this for the elders.
